Wat is de Taxonomie van Bloom?

In our courses, we use the Taxonomy of Educational Objectives to formulate the learning objectives for our courses and let our students know what level of understanding and learning is expected of them. We’ve managed to implement this in a manner that is subtle, playful and visual, but understanding the background of this taxonomy will help you learn on our platform even better. Geschiedenis

De taxonomie van Bloom is een theoretisch model waarin zes cognitieve gedragsniveaus worden onderscheiden waarop een leerdoel ingesteld kan worden.

Deze taxonomie was in 1956 ontworpen door onderwijspsycholoog Dr. Benjamin Bloom. Hij wou het onderwijs naar een hoger niveau tillen door hogere denk en gedragsniveaus te stimuleren. Door een onderscheid te maken tussen verschillende gedragsniveaus in het leren hoopte hij dat de focus in het onderwijs verlegd zou worden van simpelweg feiten onthouden en begrijpen naar hogere denkniveaus zoals het leren toepassen, analyseren en evalueren van kennis.

In 2000 werd een herziene versie van de Taxonomie uitgebracht, die het model versimpelde en toegankelijker maakte voor gebruik in het ontwerpen van onderwijs. Dit is de versie van de taxonomie van Bloom die nu veelal in het onderwijs gebruikt wordt.

Cognitieve Gedragsniveaus

In de taxonomie van Bloom wordt onderscheid gemaakt tussen de volgende zes gedragsniveaus, in oplopende volgorde van niveau: Onthouden, Begrijpen, Toepassen, Analyseren, Evalueren en Creëren.

Waar gebruiken wij het voor?

Wij gebruiken de taxonomie van Bloom bij het formuleren van de leerdoelen bij onze trainingen en het opstellen van de bijbehorende toetsvragen. Dit doen wij om goed te kunnen bepalen wat de student moet beheersen na elke les en de training in het geheel, en om te toetsen in hoeverre dit het geval is.
Aan het begin en einde van elke les in onze trainingen geven wij aan wat de leerdoelen binnen de les is, en welke leerdimensies van Bloom hierbij van toepassing zijn. Hiervoor gebruiken wij de volgende icoontjes:

Application through E-Learning

We believe that using a taxonomy of learning objectives is essential to creating a successful online course, as it can be used to guide the student in their learning process, and ensures that learning isn’t purely about memorizing facts.

E-learning is the ideal platform for the first three cognitive levels of the taxonomy, as they can be best stimulated through visual cues, repetition and practical examples; typical staples of edu-tech solutions. Of course the three higher levels are also possible to implement through digital learning technology, but this is a little more tricky and often requires active tutor assessment, which tends to be expensive to implement.

Our process

And now for how it all comes together. We’ve explained what the taxonomy is and what we use it for, but now let us give you a look at what its place is in our process.

When we create a course, we always start out with a Body of Knowledge, formulated and supplied to us by an authority or according to existing certifications. This Body of Knowledge is to determine the course content; the content that we want our students to learn.

We then apply the Taxonomy of Educational Objectives to this Body of Knowledge in order to decide how this content should be learned and on what cognitive level. Using this process, we ensure that our courses comply with both the international standards of the Body Knowledge and the educational level of quality that one should expect and demand of an institute of education.
