DMAIC is a simple performance improvement model made to solve complex problems. DMAIC stands for Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control. These are the 5 steps that guide you from defining a clear problem statement to implementing a substantiated solution.
The DMAIC structure can be applied in virtually any improvement initiative, ranging from a 5-day Kaizen event to a 5-week problem-solving project, or even a 5-month organizationwide improvement programme. It is a versatile improvement method that is not bound to any specific magnitude or timeframe.
Most often you will see the DMAIC model employed within multidisciplinary teams, as it is a method that encourages analysing situations from multiple angles and perspectives so as to provide the most thorough and effective solution possible.
