The history and background of Lean 5S

You will learn about the history and background of Lean 5S, and find out that the mindset behind this method dates back hundreds if not thousands of years! In fact, some of the greatest undertakings in human history were only possible because of that same blend of ingenuity and standardization on which 5S is based.

Step-by-step explanation of the Lean 5S method

A method or tool is best understood when it is fully explained from a practical perspective, and there’s nothing more than a step-by-step explanation. Lucky for us then, 5S is a 5-step method, giving you an easy overview of the activities it contains. You will learn exactly how to implement the 5S’s, whatever the context.

Practical advice from an experienced tutor

As with our other courses, we believe it’s not enough to just explain a concept and how it works. You will also learn from your tutor as he hands down practical tips and tricks regarding the 5S’s of Lean and their implementation. Avoid the pitfalls of inexperience and benefit from years of practical experience!

Create overview and structure: Keep the workplace ready for use

One of the main reasons to use 5S is to create overview and structure in your workplace. Nothing is better for Productivity than knowing with certainty that everything you need is always in its rightful place. You will never have to look for your supplies or tools ever again, and when something is amiss it will be apparent immediately.

Lay the foundation for a culture of continuous improvement

Implementing the 5S’s is considered by some to be an essential prerequisite for creating a culture of shared responsibility and continuous improvement. Lean 5S is not so much about standardizing your environment as it is about standardizing the habits, mindset and responsibilities of people.

Achieve Standardization Nirvana

Having a fully 5S-designed workplace means that when a defect occurs or something is not in its right place, it is as if sirens begin to blare and emergency lights flare up everywhere. It means that if someone needs to use a tool or object, how close it is to them depends on how often they need it. It means that the workplace has become an extension of your mind. Or something like that.
